MICHAEL WATTERSON

Michael Watterson is a critical care nurse and healthcare strategist whose 15 years on the frontlines of American medicine span more than two dozen hospitals across eight states. From Level I trauma centers in New York, Virginia, Arizona, and California to safety-net hospitals, rural community systems, and border-region facilities during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Michael has practiced inside a panoply of environments where U.S. healthcare is delivered and has witnessed where it most often breaks down.

His clinical foundation extends across numerous medical units, behavioral health settings, and hospice facilities. He has stood up workplace COVID surveillance programs for essential-worker populations, partnered with the Virginia Department of Health on contact tracing, and holds a certificate in Vaccine and Viral Immunology from Harvard Medical School.

Michael’s perspective is grounded in a core conviction: healthcare and policy are inseparable. Every bedside outcome is shaped upstream by decisions made in legislative chambers, regulatory offices, and boardrooms. Whether care reaches patients equitably depends on understanding that interdependence.

Before nursing, Michael worked in politics as a field organizer and campaign staffer, engaging voters on healthcare access and economic opportunity. That experience informs how he translates frontline reality into actionable strategy for stakeholders. At Maven, Michael brings a rare combination of bedside fluency, systems thinking, and organizing discipline to clients navigating workforce, quality, safety, and patient-experience challenges.
